چکیده

An interesting physical process has been unveiled: dynamical core excitation during a breakup reaction of loosely bound core + N systems. These reactions are typically used to extract spectroscopic information and/or astrophysical information. A new method, the eXtended Continuum Discretized Coupled Channel (XCDCC) method, was developed to incorporate, in a consistent way and to all orders, core excitation in the bound and scattering states of the projectile, as well as dynamical excitation of the core as it interacts with the target. The model predicts cross sections to specific states of the core. It is applied to the breakup of Be on Be at 60 MeV/u, and the calculated cross sections are in improved agreement with the data. The distribution of the cross section amongst the various core states is shown to depend on the reaction model used, and not simply on the ground state spectroscopic factors.

Simulation and Analysis of Breakup Reactions with the Program CDXS+

Electromagnetic breakup reactions of stable and exotic nuclei at medium to high projectile energies provide a wealth of information for nuclear structure and astrophysics. E.g., it is possible to study ground-state spectroscopic factors, nucleon-core interactions [1] or to extract low-energy radiative capture cross sections [2]. In order to prepare the actual experiments and to analyze the obta...

Final-state effects in the electromagnetic breakup of exotic nuclei

Exotic nuclei have been studied extensively in recent years by electromagnetic excitation with the help of the Coulomb breakup method. Experiments are usually analyzed in first order theories with simple structure models. However, the importance of final-state effects from the interaction between the fragments and between target and fragments have to be assessed in order to obtain reliable info...

Scaling laws and effective-range approach for electromagnetic strength in single-particle halo nuclei

Electromagnetic strength functions of single-particle halo nuclei exhibit universal features that can be described in terms of characteristic scale parameters [1, 2]. These exotic nuclei are often well described assuming a simple nucleon+core structure. They have been studied extensively in recent years by electromagnetic excitation with the help of the Coulomb breakup method. A large electroma...

We present a semiclassical and mostly analytical model of elastic neutron breakup reactions for exotic projectiles. Both nuclear and Coulomb induced reactions are considered and the potentials are treated to all orders in the interactions. Furthermore we introduce a technique which allows the use of the full Coulomb potential, thus including all multipoles besides the dipole. Results for deeply...
